The side table grows from a single piece of bent aluminum, an abstract triangular plate broken on a brake into both a tabletop and one supporting leg. Anodized in an ombre tie dye of greens and yellows, built up through successive dips into different baths, the surface shifts subtly from edge to edge, no two views quite the same. The bent edges along the perimeter serve double duty, stiffening the thin plate structurally while creating a natural lip, a place where fingers find their grip without thinking. Two additional legs complete the form, one cut from bent flat bar stock, the other a solid aluminum rod bent to trace its own gestural line. Three different stock types, three different bending operations, one small object. At eighteen inches wide, eight deep, and nineteen tall, the table is compact, light enough to carry by its own edges, substantial enough to hold its ground. It belongs to a kit of parts, sharing its bent plate and bent bar with its taller cousin, the laptop table, each piece a different proportion and configuration of the same small material vocabulary, bent into new purpose.
