The reception desk is built from CNC cut birch plywood, assembled through interlocking slots without fasteners or adhesive. The joinery holds the structure together as part of the design itself, one material working with one material, the natural logic of how wood can connect without requiring additional hardware.

Painted graphics are composed with the carved lines across the natural plywood face, extending the Language of Nature, a graphic system developed with artist Forest Sterns for the campus. The pattern responds to quantum computation's close relationship with the natural world, referencing the visual logic of the space without overstating it.

The form transitions from vertical wall element into horizontal work surface, the counter sitting at standard height while the base widens slightly toward the floor. From a distance it reads as a single object. Up close, the layered cuts and slot connections become visible, the joinery revealing itself. Designed to be fabricated in house, flat packed, and assembled on site, the desk was conceived to move quickly between locations while maintaining the integrity of a single material system, no additions required.
